The Speakeasy Secret Location Was

The COURTHOUSE!

Some secrets CAN be kept! Yeah, they were all pleading the 5th... Muggsy & Big Tuna, Johnny Sausage & Boozie, and no less than the Mystery Couple from Pasadena (the red flapper). Then, out of nowhere without warning, Benny the Benefactor (naturally that's an alias) stepped out of the crowd with his hand in the air waving 3 crisp "Jeffersons". He proposed we pass the hat and challenged the "Speakeasiers" to dig deep for Oakland's Arts & Entertainment District! And then he was gone, without a trace. Wow, thanks to Benny, we raised $500... just during the Speakeasy. That's the spirit that moves us!

As things wound down and folks hit the road, there was a lot of chatter about what fun might be coming next to Oakland's Downtown A&E.

Well, all we can say is "stay tuned" and we'll keep you posted here on the Oakland A&E District website and with social media.

It was a big week for  Flappers and Model-Ts

Just this previous Monday the Mason-Dixon Chapter of the Model-T Ford Club International came through our fair town. They were retracing part of the 1918 journey of industry titans Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, John Burroughs. The Four Vagabonds as they referred to themselves, traveled through Maryland, West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia. Oakland was on that commemorative route, as well as a stop at Swallow Falls, where they camped as they caravanned  through the region exactly 100 years ago.

This was a special event and drew a sizable crowd who had the opportunity to get a close look at impeccably restored examples of Ford's finest. This video shows part of the journey, from Swallow Falls towards Oakland.
