Artists' Third Thirsday at the Garrett County Arts Council's $MART Art Spaces (Copy)

Event Details

Join us the third Thursday of every month! Bring your own materials, we will provide the space. If you can not work on your medium without your usual set-up, this is a great opportunity to stretch your sketching skills, or plan your next project! Everyone is welcome – this is not limited to 2D work. If you knit, weave baskets, are working on piecing a quilt, etc. you can come too! Perhaps you are a writer instead? Bring your pencil & notepad or laptop!
This is not intended as a critique group, exhibition, class, or sale. This is simply an opportunity for scheduled unstructured work time dedicated to embracing your creativity, and chatting with others as they do the same!
You’re welcome to bring snacks – but it’s on you if you mix up your coffee cup with the paint water!

It’s an art club for adults!

A monthly after-hours get-together on the first Friday of every month in our $MART ART Space.

Ages 16+, no experience necessary & all skill levels welcome. Free to attend & open to the public. This is not a critique group or a workshop. Our goal is to make art more approachable for everyone by exploring a new niche each month! Maybe you’ll pick up a new technique, a few new terms, or some random art knowledge. We are joining the rest of the nation, State of Maryland, and all of Garrett County in celebrating the 250th anniversary of our country! Get ready for a pie-eating contest and live music; craft and food vendors, and a specially curated Artist Market!

The Kids Zone this year will have bouncy houses and a slide, a bubble zone, golf simulator, and engagement with the local Robotics Team!

The Beer Walk will feature local and regional breweries; we expect to have a full list available by mid-May!

Kick Off to Summer

The Oakland Arts & Entertainment District is excited to announce Oakland’s Kick Off to Summer event, hosted by the Oakland Arts & Entertainment District in partnership between the Garrett County Arts Council, the Town of Oakland, and many generous sponsors!

This year, on the Summer Solstice of June 21, 2025, expect to see various theatre, circus, magician, poetry, and musical live performances, with more food and craft/retail venders and activities for kids and families, including games, art crafts, the repeated favorite dunk tank, and more! We additionally bring back the popular Beer and Cider walk (with purchased ticket) and non-profit lemonade stands. 

It’s free fun for all and not to be missed!

Poetry Reading @ Shoofly

This is a poetry reading in the District at Shoofly Java. Join C. Jonathan Anderson and his band of well intentioned literate’s on his mission to “bring poetry to the people.” We share spoken word, sometimes performative, but always with an open mind and heart. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to share an original or a favorite poem, prose, or short-short story with the group. This is an open mic style event with no sign-up sheet.
